Kawhi Leonard had undisclosed deal with video board company, according to report

Under an ongoing investigation into potential salary cap violations, NBA star Kawhi Leonard has reportedly entered into an undisclosed multimillion-dollar agreement with Daktronics, the manufacturer of the video boards in the Los Angeles Clippers' arena. According to an unnamed source speaking with Pablo Torre Finds Out, the deal was allegedly a scheme to circumvent league salary cap rules by funneling money from the Clippers to Leonard through Daktronics.

While the NBA and Clippers have not commented on the matter, Daktronics confirmed that Leonard is not currently under contract with the company. The video boards designed by Daktronics, known as "The Halo Board," can be found in the Clippers' $2 billion arena, the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California, and have been installed at other NBA venues.

In September, the NBA initiated an investigation into the Clippers following allegations of using Aspiration, a banking firm, to pay Leonard $28 million through a "no-show job," raising concerns about the legality of the arrangement. Aspiration subsequently filed for bankruptcy last year, and its co-founder was sentenced to prison on fraud charges involving $248 million.

The Toronto Raptors, who lost Leonard to the Clippers in free agency after winning the 2019 NBA championship, have tentatively agreed to a trade to bring him back, pending the outcome of the league's investigation. The Clippers, who have consistently denied any wrongdoing, have also put the trade on hold until the investigation is concluded.

Leonard, a two-time NBA Finals MVP and seven-time All-Star, averaged 27.9 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game in 65 games for the Clippers during the 2022-23 season.
