Japanese-French patisserie Pantler to close after 12 years unless a buyer takes over

The Japanese-French patisserie Pantler, located at River Valley Road, is set to close its doors permanently on August 30, 2026, unless a suitable buyer comes forward to continue its legacy. Founded in 2014 by Singaporean Matthias Phua and Japanese pastry chef Tomoharu Morita, Pantler has been serving delicious Japanese-French-style pastries since its debut on Telok Ayer Street. The patisserie gained a loyal following for its refined pastries, including the popular Yatsura, Chou a la Creme, and Strawberry Shortcake.

In an Instagram post, Pantler's team expressed hope to find the right person to carry on the brand's story. However, they also considered transitioning from a physical shop to a central kitchen, focusing solely on online orders and takeaways. Nevertheless, the owners acknowledged that this move would involve significant costs, and they could not guarantee a return on investment.

Phua, who previously pursued a career as a writer, and Morita, who spent almost a decade at Grand Hyatt Tokyo's award-winning pastry team, first met while working at the Tokyo hotel. They later collaborated at Joel Robuchon Singapore before opening Pantler. Since its reopening in a larger space on River Valley Road in February 2021, Pantler has continued to delight customers with its diverse range of pastries, offering everything from croissants and tarts to seasonal creations.

If no buyer is found, Pantler will serve its final bakes on August 30, 2026. Until then, the patisserie remains hopeful about a new owner taking the helm.
