Jana Armstrong's family says her son will know 'just how special mum was'

The funeral of Jana Armstrong, a 30-year-old Toowoomba woman whose body was found in bushland near her hometown, was held in the rural town of Millmerran. Her family remembered her as someone who deeply cared for others and loved being a mother above all else. Ms Armstrong, who was just six weeks away from becoming a mother, was laid to rest beside her parents and grandmother at the Millmerran Cemetery.

Her five-month-old son is now being raised by her sister and her husband. The funeral service, conducted by Celebrant Janice Holstein who had also lost a child, was attended by about 100 mourners. Mourners wore Ms Armstrong's favorite color, green, and an Auslan interpreter translated the service as Ms Armstrong's late father, who was deaf, communicated through sign language.

Her younger brother, Dean, read a poem called "Dear Sister in Heaven," expressing his love and longing for his sister. Ms Armstrong's sister, Faith Isaacs, spoke movingly about their unbreakable bond and promised that her sister's story would continue through the people who knew her. Ms Armstrong, a disability carer, had strong family ties, as her children learned sign language since childhood.

The family gathered outside the cultural center after the service, where the baby boy, overwhelmed with emotion, began to cry as his mother's coffin was carried away.
