India's day out in Colombo: Gill sidelined by injury as bowlers find rhythm

In Colombo, India's cricket team faced Sri Lanka Cricket's XI during a warm-up match for the upcoming three-day Test series. The match took place at the Nondescripts Cricket Club (NCC) Ground, where a Sri Lankan fan named Mohammed Nilam was present, cheering for his team. Nilam, who is a huge supporter of Sri Lankan cricket, had previously met Indian cricketers like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Despite his support for Sri Lanka, he was seen enthusiastically cheering for the home side.

The weather was pleasant, with humid conditions giving way to a gentle breeze in the later stages of the match. The Indian bowlers found their rhythm as the day progressed, with Kuldeep Yadav competing with Nilam for the loudest cries. Every bowler, including Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar, Ravindra Jadeja, Manav Suthar, and Kuldeep, had a chance to showcase their skills. Saransh Jain also contributed to the Indian bowling attack.

Notably, Auqib Nabi, who replaced Jasprit Bumrah due to injury, did not get the opportunity to bowl. The management decided against giving Nabi a warm-up before the series, suggesting their approach for the upcoming fixtures. The NCC facility, situated near the venue for the second India-Sri Lanka Test, was mostly deserted during the three-day fixture, with only a few spectators watching the final overs.

Shubman Gill, the Indian captain, was ruled out for the day due to an impact injury to his right ring finger during practice. Gill sustained the injury while playing for India and will not take the field in the match. As a precautionary measure, he will be monitored by the BCCI Medical Team. KL Rahul will lead the Indian team in Gill's absence. India managed to post 363 for 8 after 90 overs, with Manav Suthar, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, and Gurnoor Brar contributing significantly to the bowling effort.
