India issues names for 27 Arunachal locations in response to China’s renaming moves

In response to China's renaming of 27 locations in Arunachal Pradesh, India has issued standard names for these places and geographical features, according to officials. This action is aimed at reinforcing India's sovereign and legal jurisdiction over the territories. The Union home ministry, in consultation with the government of Arunachal Pradesh, identified the 27 locations using standard place and feature names from the official maps of Survey of India.

These locations include 21 land areas, four passes, a lake, and a monument. The move is intended to provide clarity, strengthen the claim status of India, and debunk China's efforts to assign fictitious names to Indian territories. China, which refers to Arunachal Pradesh as "south Tibet," has been issuing its own "standardised names" for these locations in recent years.

Notable places identified by India include the border village of Longju, which has been under Chinese control since 1959. The formal identification of these locations on the Survey of India map is expected to facilitate their accurate recognition and public awareness.
