The Government Accountability Office (GAO) has found inflated claims made by Elon Musk's DOGE (Deceptive Organization of Government Efficiency) regarding potential savings for the federal government. In its latest report, the GAO revealed that the $2 trillion in federal spending cuts Musk promised are not supported by the $110 billion claimed on DOGE's "Wall of Receipts."

Additionally, the GAO discovered that DOGE had claimed $113 million in savings from lease cuts, but this was overstated and only amounted to $53.5 million. The report also revealed that out of the 13,476 contracts DOGE claimed were terminated, "no termination action" was taken on 2,503 of them. The GAO's findings call into question the effects of the DOGE effort, which slashed federal spending with little notice to agencies, resulting in hundreds of thousands of job losses.

Sens. Gary Peters (D-Mich.) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) requested the GAO review, which was published after DOGE announced it was winding down. The GAO is recommending that DOGE's website should include a prominent warning about data-quality issues and limitations, stating that the site is not a reliable source of information.
