GSA begins nationwide sensitisation for shippers

The Ghana Shippers’ Authority (GSA) has launched a nationwide campaign to educate shippers about the mandatory registration process on the Integrated Customs Management System (ICUMS). This initiative, in line with the Ghana Shippers’ Authority Act, 2024 (Act 1122), aims to streamline cargo clearance and gather valuable data for policy-making.

On Wednesday, August 5th, 2026, a sensitisation program was held for executives of Freight Forwarding Associations at the Ghana Shippers’ House. The GSA, Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), and ICUMS collaborated to explain the benefits of electronic registration and data collection. Deputy Chief Executive Officer Sylvia Asana Dauda Owu emphasized the importance of complying with Section 26(1) of Act 1122, which mandates all importers and exporters to register before processing shipments through ICUMS.

The program featured demonstrations and question-and-answer sessions to ensure a smooth transition to the new system. Freight forwarders requested a one-week extension to August 31st, 2026, to allow for additional stakeholder engagement and compliance preparation. The GSA assured that Management would consider the request. Additionally, discussions focused on the Container Administrative Charge (CAC), with the President of the Ghana Institute of Freight Forwarders (GIFF) calling for industry-wide support in collecting the approved GH¢720 fee.

Custom officials stressed the need for continued collaboration among stakeholders to improve trade efficiency and regulatory compliance.
