GETFund breaks ground for GH¢18.7m boys’ dormitory at Achimota School under new partnership initiative

The Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) has officially begun construction on a significant new development at Achimota School. A 250-bed boys' dormitory block, set to include a central courtyard, has seen its first sod cut thanks to a private investment of GH¢18.7 million. This substantial funding was provided through GETFund's Education Financing and Partnership Initiative (EFPI), with the majority of the sum coming from Saka Homes, a company owned by a former Achimota School student, Ebenezer Kwadwo Saka Addo-Mensah.

The groundbreaking ceremony, conducted on August 6, was presided over by GETFund Administrator Paul Adjei, who formally accepted the donation on behalf of the Fund. Adjei highlighted the significance of this project as an example of a shared commitment to enhancing educational infrastructure and maintaining high standards of learning.

He also extended his gratitude to Mr. Saka Addo-Mensah for his generous act of giving back to his alma mater, emphasizing the crucial role alumni can play in supporting education in Ghana. Adjei stressed that the quality of education is closely linked to the availability of safe, modern, and conducive learning facilities for students.
