Ford’s new ‘Fathom’ electric pickup truck will start at $28,000

Ford Motor Company has unveiled its upcoming midsize electric truck, dubbed the "Fathom," with a projected starting price of $28,350. This price includes a destination and delivery charge of $1,595, bringing the total to $29,945, which aligns with the $30,000 price point Ford had previously announced. Preorders for the five-passenger Fathom will open in early 2027, with deliveries expected later in the same year.

The automaker has not disclosed the Fathom's design. The Fathom is set to be the first vehicle to utilize Ford's new "Universal Electric Vehicle," or UEV, platform, which the company aims to transform its Model e business unit from significant annual losses to profitability by 2029. A Ford spokesperson expressed confidence in the UEV platform, stating it will provide a competitive cost advantage.

Ford aims for each vehicle built on the UEV system to be profitable within a year of its launch and cost-competitive with global EV leaders from China and Tesla. The company has been developing the UEV platform for years through a secret unit to ensure it is cost-competitive with traditional gas-powered models. Despite a recent slowdown in EV adoption and the discontinuation of U.S. consumer incentives for EV purchases, Ford remains committed to its electric vehicle strategy.

The Fathom is expected to be manufactured using Ford's new assembly tree manufacturing process at its Louisville Assembly Plant in Kentucky.
