Developing UAE talent ultimate goal for ILT20 as it prepares for fifth season

The DP World International League T20, or ILT20, has set its sights on developing local talent in the UAE as it gears up for its fifth season. CEO David White emphasized that nurturing local players remains at the forefront of their plans, highlighting the league's growing prominence among T20 tournaments worldwide. With investment from top IPL team owners, the ILT20 has shifted its schedule to a new window, running from November 22 to December 20, 2023.

The tournament's guidelines now place greater importance on incorporating UAE, regional, and Associate nations players in squads and playing XIs. White's primary objective is to promote and develop local cricketing talent, stating that the league contributes significantly to the long-term growth of cricket in the UAE. By integrating local players into the league, the ILT20 offers a platform for Associate Member players to showcase their skills alongside world-class cricketers.

This exposure accelerates their development and strengthens Associate cricket. Many UAE cricketers, such as Khuzaima Tanveer and Muhammad Rohid, have leveraged the ILT20 to establish themselves as match-winners and enhance the national team's competitiveness. White asserts that the league's unique experience—allowing players to focus on cricket in the UAE while staying with their families—sets it apart from other competitions. Defending champions Desert Vipers are set to kick off the fifth season of the ILT20 in November.
