Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey Passes $1 Billion at the Global Box Office

Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey has surpassed the $1 billion mark at the global box office after just three weeks in theaters. This significant milestone marks the film's first achievement of such a number in more than 14 years, following The Dark Knight Rises in 2012. The film has earned $429.65 million domestically and $578.8 million internationally, totaling $1.008 billion, narrowly trailing The Dark Knight Rises' record of $1.08 billion.

Imax ticket sales accounted for a substantial $257 million of the film's gross. The director's decision to film the movie exclusively in Imax has contributed significantly to its success, potentially making The Odyssey the company's biggest release in history before the weekend ends. The film has been part of a series of $1 billion movies throughout 2026, including The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Toy Story 5, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and Michael.

Its opening weekend brought in $264 million, with a modest 19% drop in its second weekend. As the film enters its fourth weekend in theaters, Nolan is under pressure to deliver another highest-grossing movie when he releases his next project. While audiences embrace The Odyssey to adapt the 3,000-year-old story, not everyone has enjoyed this version of the epic tale. Greek translator Emily Wilson has criticized the film in recent reviews.
