Charity bundle hosted by Necrosoft Games nears $200,000 goal to support workers affected by layoffs

An Itch.io charity bundle, hosted by Necrosoft Games, is nearing its $200,000 fundraising target to aid workers who have been impacted by layoffs in the US and Canada. The bundle features 127 games for a minimum price of $10, with seven days remaining for potential donors to contribute. This promotion, set to end on August 13, currently boasts over $169,000 in donations.

The funds raised by the charity bundle are intended to support a hardship fund established by the United Videogame Workers (UVW-CWA) union, which began operations on July 6. The UVW-CWA union offers two tiers of assistance through the fund: the Small Fund, which provides up to $1,000, and the Major Expenses Tier, which covers between $1,000 and $5,000.

The UVW-CWA hardship fund is open to anyone who has been affected by layoffs or related hardships, irrespective of union membership. Recipients can utilize the funds for both work-related and personal expenses, including groceries, rent, medical bills, and moving costs. The Bethesda Game Studios union, OneBGS, has recently disclosed that a member successfully employed the hardship fund to cover moving expenses following mass layoffs at Xbox, which impacted 440 union members.
