Car bursts into flames on Si Rat Expressway in Bangkok

BANGKOK — On the morning of 7 August 2026, a private vehicle caught fire on the Si Rat Expressway, leading to substantial congestion near the Prachanukun toll plaza. The 199 emergency hotline was alerted to the incident at 09:05. Firefighters from the Bang Son Fire and Rescue Station, supported by expressway rescue personnel, rushed to the scene in fire engines.

The event took place on the four-lane expressway, close to the entrance of the Prachanukun toll plaza, where a white Bangkok-registered passenger car was engulfed in flames in its engine compartment while stationary in the far-right lane. Despite the firefighters' efforts, the vehicle was largely destroyed in the blaze. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries or fatalities.

The fire led to severe traffic delays as vehicles backed up over a considerable stretch of the expressway. Following the fire, expressway rescue officers removed the charred remains of the car to clear the route, and authorities initiated an investigation into the cause of the fire.
