Artificial intelligence (AI) should be seen as a tool to enhance entrepreneurship rather than replace human creativity and critical thinking, according to La’Kerri Jackson, Global Director of Social Impact at UPS. Speaking at the opening of a two-day entrepreneurship workshop in Accra, Jackson encouraged business owners to embrace AI as a practical tool for productivity improvement while relying on their knowledge, experience, and innovation.
The workshop, organized by the International Trade Centre’s SheTrades Initiative in partnership with UPS, Visa, and the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA), brought together 200 Ghanaian entrepreneurs to build skills in AI, digital payments, logistics, marketing, and access to finance. Jackson emphasized that entrepreneurs worldwide face common challenges such as limited access to capital and export opportunities, making collaboration between development partners and the private sector crucial.
UPS collaborates with organizations worldwide to help entrepreneurs overcome these barriers through training, mentorship, and access to business support networks. A key focus of the Accra workshop is to help small business owners understand how to apply AI to their daily operations without requiring advanced technical expertise.
Jackson cautioned against overreliance on AI, stressing that technology should complement, rather than replace, human judgment.
