Two individuals, Chong Foo Yon, 75, and his son Chong Kok Woo, 51, along with another businessman K Kumaaravelu, 39, and his associate N S Sivakumar, 54, appeared in court today, facing charges of making false statements on employment benefit forms under the Workforce Development Program (Perkeso) 2.0. The case dates back two years, with the allegations made in Mandarin before Judge Mohd Nasri Nordin.

Foo Yon and Kok Woo face charges of providing false information regarding the particulars of a principal in a false statement document submitted to Perkeso agents for a benefit claim at Taman Bukit Serdang, Seri Kembangan on November 2, 2024. They are accused of committing this offense under Section 18 of the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Enforcement Authority Act 2009 (SPRM), which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years imprisonment and a fine of up to RM10,000 or higher, whichever is greater.

Kok Woo is additionally charged under Section 28(1)(c) of the SAME Act 2009, which can result in a 20-year prison sentence or a fine of up to RM10,000, whichever is higher. Kumaaravelu and Sivakumar are also charged under the same sections and are accused of submitting false statements regarding an employment benefit claim in their respective companies on March 2024.

Each of the defendants denies the charges, as do Kumaaravelu and Sivakumar. The prosecution seeks a RM10,000 bail for all the defendants, except Kumaaravelu, who is being held to a RM25,000 bail in addition to the RM10,000. The court later approved the defendants and Sivakumar to be bonded with RM10,000 each, while Kumaaravelu was required to pay RM20,000 in bail, each with an additional condition. The hearing was adjourned to October 29 for further proceedings.
