You won’t be in power forever – Miracles Aboagye sends warning over treatment of opponents

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, a hopeful National Communications Officer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has cautioned that no government maintains power indefinitely. In an interview on Joy News’ PM Express, he urged political leaders to refrain from setting precedents that could affect future administrations. The warning stems from rising political tensions and the treatment of opposition figures.

Aboagye highlighted that regardless of which party assumes power, governments are temporary, citing instances of change even during military rule. He emphasized that actions against political opponents could become the norm under future administrations. When questioned about the possibility of such a precedent being used against the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Aboagye stressed his concern for protecting free expression in Ghana.

He stated that his motivation for speaking out was not about personal safety but rather safeguarding democratic freedoms. Aboagye pointed out that the thousands of protesters planned for the following day shared his apprehension, stating that their primary worry was the ability to freely express themselves without fear of repercussions.

He urged government officials to avoid targeting outspoken critics, as their actions could eventually be directed back at them.
