Vietnam’s top leader To Lam to visit Australia, New Zealand

Vietnam's top leader To Lam is set to embark on a visit to Australia and New Zealand next week, with the aim of strengthening bilateral partnerships and enhancing cooperation in various sectors, according to a government statement. The trip, scheduled from August 9 to 14, is part of Vietnam's intensified diplomatic endeavors since To Lam assumed his role as general secretary in 2024.

During his visit, To Lam is anticipated to sign between 12 to 16 agreements with Australia, spanning areas such as climate, environment, energy, defence, security, economic ties, education, digital transformation, agriculture, and healthcare. Vietnam's vast mineral resources, particularly its untapped deposits, have made it an appealing partner for Australia, a major producer of critical minerals utilized in modern technology.

In New Zealand, officials anticipate the signing of five to six agreements, focusing on sectors like food and fiber, education, tourism, technology, aviation, and investment. These initiatives, according to New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, are aimed at fostering increased exports and job creation in the country.
