Vice veterans minister to visit U.S. for int'l forum on veterans policies, exchanges

Seoul, August 6 (Yonhap) - Vice Veterans Minister Kang Yun-jin is set to travel to the United States this week for an international forum focused on veterans policies and exchanges, according to the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs. The minister's five-day visit to Washington will include the International Conference on Veterans Affairs, which commenced on Thursday and is expected to conclude on the same day.

The conference is a recurring event established in 2005 to foster policy exchanges with U.N. member states and strengthen friendships among participating nations of the Korean War. This year marks the first time the conference has taken place in Washington, coinciding with the 250th anniversary of American independence. The conference, themed "Commemorating the Peace and Freedom We Achieved Together," is anticipated to gather approximately 200 participants.

These participants will comprise officials from the U.S. Congress, senior veterans affairs officials from five nations involved in the Korean War, including Turkey, France, and the Philippines. The conference, which aims to honor the 1950-53 Korean War veterans, seeks to fortify international cooperation in veterans affairs with the participating nations and ensure that the heritage left by our veterans is effectively transmitted to future generations. Kang Yun-jin emphasized this commitment during his announcement.
