UK expands talent visa to more than 100 companies

The UK has extended its Global Talent visa to over 100 companies, enabling them to recruit "exceptional researchers" more readily. This move allows a broad array of businesses, from startups to well-established firms, to access the visa. Among the new entrants are Riverlane, NuQuantum, and Notpla, all of which are involved in quantum technology and sustainable materials respectively.

Established companies such as GSK, Arm, Jaguar Land Rover, and IBM have also been included on the list. The expansion aims to boost innovation across various sectors, including pharmaceuticals, artificial intelligence, and creative industries. Notably, AI-focused startups like Ineffable Intelligence and Recursive Superintelligence are not part of the updated list, possibly due to their reliance on advanced research talent.

Professor Christopher Smith from UKRI highlighted the broader impact of this policy change on sectors beyond traditional tech. In April, the UK government streamlined the visa's fast-track academic appointment process, broadening its application to various roles within accredited academic institutions.
