UK appoints Seymour as deputy high commissioner to Nigeria

The United Kingdom has recently appointed Vicky Seymour as its new Deputy High Commissioner in Nigeria, marking a commitment to deepen bilateral ties with Africa's largest economy. Seymour assumes her new role in Abuja, succeeding Gill Lever OBE, whose tenure in Nigeria concluded in June 2026. The British High Commission in Abuja announced the appointment on Thursday.

Prior to this position, Seymour served as the Head of the East Africa Department at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) since 2023. She has also held key roles in trade diplomacy and development in various African countries, including Mozambique and the Democratic Republic of Congo. With over two decades of experience in diplomacy, international development, and public service, Seymour brings a wealth of knowledge in climate, security, and economic development matters.

Expressing her enthusiasm for the appointment, Seymour emphasized her commitment to strengthening the long-standing relationship between the United Kingdom and Nigeria. "I am delighted to be taking up the role of Deputy High Commissioner in Abuja," she stated. "I look forward to getting to know this extraordinary country, meeting people from across Nigeria's diverse communities, and building on the strong partnership that already exists between our two countries."

Seymour aims to continue creating opportunities for greater collaboration and people-to-people links between the United Kingdom and Nigeria. The British High Commission emphasized that Seymour will play a pivotal role in advancing UK engagement with Nigeria in key areas such as economic growth, security, migration, international collaboration, and development cooperation, while fostering stronger ties between the people of both nations.
