Trump reiterates his positive portrayal of Iran talks

President Donald Trump has reiterated his positive assessment of ongoing talks with Iran, stating that the negotiations appear to be "working out quite well." The president made the remarks during an interview on the "FOX5 1-ON-1" show with FOX5 Las Vegas journalist Tom Durian, published on Wednesday evening. Despite the Iran conflict entering its sixth month and failing to reach a permanent resolution, Trump has consistently attempted to present the talks in a favorable light.

Trump mentioned a potential deal on reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a vital energy route that Iran blocked after the war commenced. He expressed optimism that a resolution is imminent, emphasizing that the U.S. aimed to avoid causing harm and total destruction, contrasting with their initial intent. The president's comments come amid criticism from human rights experts who have condemned his threats targeting civilian infrastructure.

Iran has warned that a U.S. execution of such threats would prompt Tehran to target critical regional infrastructure, in violation of the 1949 Geneva Conventions prohibiting attacks on civilian sites. International law experts in the U.S. have also raised concerns, stating that such attacks could amount to war crimes under international law.

The Iran conflict began on February 28 with U.S. and Israeli strikes, followed by Tehran's retaliatory actions against Israel and U.S. bases in the region. The ongoing war has resulted in thousands of casualties and the displacement of millions.
