Top Guardians prospect Angel Genao starts career with 4 straight hits, 2 errors in MLB debut; Mets spoil party in extras

Cleveland Guardians' top prospect, Angel Genao, made an impressive MLB debut on Wednesday night against the New York Mets. The young shortstop, who was called up for his first game at home, started off with a bang, connecting on four straight hits in his MLB career. His performance included a go-ahead RBI in the seventh inning. However, the Guardians' lead was short-lived, as the Mets managed to secure a 6-5 victory in extra innings.

Genao, ranked 39th among prospects by MLB Pipeline, joined the Guardians with high expectations. In his MLB debut, he demonstrated his potential with a strong offensive display. His first at-bat saw him single to right field in the third inning, followed by another single in the fifth. In the sixth inning, he secured his third hit of the night, keeping his pace going. In the seventh, Genao capitalized on a high-leverage situation, driving in the go-ahead run with a powerful RBI hit, putting the Guardians ahead 5-4.

Despite his stellar performance, the Guardians could not hold onto their lead. The game was tied 5-5 in the top of the ninth inning when Brayan Rocchio made a costly error on a ground ball with bases loaded, allowing the Mets to tie the game. Genao had another chance to secure the win with a walk-off hit, but his fly ball to center field fell just short, sending the game to extra innings. The Mets eventually won the game 6-5 in the top of the ninth, thanks to a run scored by Carson Benge.

Although Genao made a few errors during his debut, his offensive skills shone through. He finished the game 4-for-5 with one run scored and one RBI. His remarkable performance at the plate may have solidified his position as a top prospect in the Guardians' lineup.
