Tema police intercept suspected cocaine worth $6.9m, arrest four

The Tema Regional Police Command intercepted 866 suspected cocaine parcels, valued at $6.9 million, and arrested four individuals during two anti-narcotics operations. Deputy Commissioner of Police Eric Asamoah Asiedu revealed this at a press briefing. The first operation occurred on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at 19:50 hours, after police received intelligence about narcotics concealed in gari sacks being loaded onto a white DAF truck.

Police apprehended three suspects at the warehouse, and a search of the gari revealed the suspected cocaine. The Dutch national allegedly admitted the consignment belonged to him and was cocaine. In a separate operation at Tsopoli, police intercepted an Opel taxi carrying four sacks suspected to be Indian hemp. A driver, Eric Tetteh, was arrested after fleeing from Akuse, with police pursuing the taxi and receiving assistance from commercial motorcyclists.

Investigations are ongoing to locate the escaped vehicle and those who removed a fifth sack from the taxi before police interception. All suspects are in custody and assisting with the investigations. The Tema Regional Police Command remains committed to combating drug trafficking and other organized crimes, urging the public to provide credible information to support law enforcement efforts.
