Tarun Tejpal sentenced to 10 years' rigorous imprisonment in 2013 rape case

In 2013, Tarun Tejpal, the editor-in-chief of Tehelka magazine, was arrested for allegedly raping a woman in a hotel elevator. After thirteen years, the Bombay High Court found Tejpal guilty on Thursday and sentenced him to ten years of rigorous imprisonment. The court granted him two weeks to surrender. Tejpal's legal team argued for a lenient sentence, citing his age and the fact that the case was thirteen years old.

However, the Solicitor General of India, Tushar Mehta, urged the court to impose the maximum sentence, stating that Tejpal had no remorse and had continued his behavior the following day. Mehta emphasized that "No means No," and that the survivor's mature conduct following the incident was wrongly portrayed as consent.
