Spaceship Earth TV Series, Inspired By EPCOT Ride, In The Works At Disney+

Disney+ has greenlit a pilot for an upcoming adventure series called "Spaceship Earth," drawing inspiration from the popular ride of the same name at Walt Disney World's EPCOT theme park. The new TV show, from 20th Television, follows a group of teenagers from Earth's past and future who must unite to prevent a global catastrophe as they confront a threat spanning the vast expanse of time itself.

Showrunner Jason Fuchs, along with executive producers Michael Waldron, Adam Fischbah, and Adam Fasullo, will oversee production, with Lee Tolant Krieger directing. The series has not yet announced its cast or a premiere date, should the pilot be ordered to series.

The idea for "Spaceship Earth" is not entirely original to Disney+, as the studio has a history of adapting its theme park attractions into major motion pictures. Examples include "Tower of Terror," "Mission to Mars," "The Country Bears," "Tomorrowland," and "Jungle Cruise." Disney has even made two attempts at films based on the Haunted Mansion ride, with the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise proving to be its most successful.

While a TV adaptation of "Spaceship Earth" would be a first for Disney Parks attractions, it would join Disney+'s lineup of original content. In 2021, the platform released a Muppets Haunted Mansion special, showcasing the beloved characters navigating the iconic attraction. Fans of the original ride and those eager for fresh content from Disney+ can look forward to seeing if "Spaceship Earth" becomes a reality.
