'Show me they want me' - will World Cup hero Torres stay at Barcelona?

Ferran Torres, Spain's World Cup hero, is set to return to Barcelona this month. His extra-time winner secured Spain's second World Cup triumph, cementing his place in football folklore. However, his future at the club is uncertain following a series of high-profile television appearances in the United States.

Torres, under contract until June 2027, expressed his desire to stay at Barcelona, stating, "Show me they want me, come to negotiate." He reiterated this sentiment during a media tour, saying, "I have a contract with Barcelona but, in football, you never know."

The speculation surrounding Torres' future intensified when he was asked directly about interest from Paris St-Germain. He replied, "Every time these teams want you, it's a good thing." Torres emphasized his readiness to face any career-defining decision, stating, "Trying to think what is going to make me happiest."

Barcelona remains relaxed about Torres' situation, planning to discuss his future when he returns for pre-season training on 12 August. They expect to extend his contract without a substantial salary increase, aiming to avoid triggering a £7m payment to Manchester City due to a clause in his contract.
