Sean McVay Addresses Aaron Donald 'Trying Out' to Make Rams Roster

The Los Angeles Rams recently made waves during their training camp when retired Super Bowl champion Aaron Donald's name surfaced as he worked out with the team. This sparked speculation that Donald was considering returning to play for the Rams in the upcoming season. Head coach Sean McVay reacted to the news with a mix of humor and revelation, stating that Donald's participation in camp was the "best tryout" they had ever witnessed.

McVay also expressed his belief that Donald could make the team. Defensive line coach Giff Smith echoed McVay's sentiment, calling it the best tryout he had ever seen. Aaron Donald, a 10-time Pro Bowler and three-time Defensive Player of the Year, is evaluating his readiness to return to the field for an 11th season, having last played for the Rams in 2023.

His potential return would allow him to join a defense that has bolstered its roster with the addition of Myles Garrett, acquired in a trade with the Cleveland Browns, and Trent McDuffie, a two-time Super Bowl-winning cornerback from the Kansas City Chiefs. Donald previously announced his retirement in 2024, indicating a lack of desire to participate in training and feeling complacent about his achievements.

However, witnessing the talent the Rams had on both sides of the ball seemed to reignite his passion for the game. The team's offense, featuring last year's NFL Most Valuable Player quarterback Matthew Stafford and star wide receivers Puka Nacua and Davante Adams, is considered one of the best in the league.
