Netanyahu calls PM Modi, discusses bilateral ties, West Asia situation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in a telephone conversation with Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday. The two leaders discussed the ongoing special strategic partnership between their nations and exchanged perspectives on the present scenario in West Asia, as confirmed by the Indian government in a statement. The conversation aimed to further strengthen bilateral cooperation across various sectors, benefiting both countries.

The friendship between India and Israel gains significance amidst the loss of traditional supporters for Israel due to Netanyahu's military offensive following Hamas's terror attack on its civilian population. This has led to a shift in support, with some sections in the US questioning Israel's actions, while there is a growing sentiment in favor of the Palestinian cause.

It is worth noting that PM Modi had paid a visit to Israel days before the US and Israel launched an attack on Iran, a fact that has been pointed out by the opposition as evidence of a potential tilt towards Netanyahu.
