NBA-Brown says winning, sacrifice will define new-look 76ers

Jaylen Brown, the 2024 NBA Finals Most Valuable Player, revealed that winning, not individual scoring, will be his main focus while joining the Philadelphia 76ers. The former Boston Celtics star was formally introduced on Thursday, following the team's trade for him from Boston. Brown will join a roster featuring LeBron James, Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and VJ Edgecombe.

Brown emphasized that he would adjust his game to contribute to the team's success, stating, "My focus going into every practice, every meeting, every shootaround, every film session is like, How do we win night in and night out?"

Brown acknowledged that the team's talent could be meaningless without sacrifice, communication, and a shared commitment to the work required to compete. While on paper, Philadelphia's collection of players appears excellent, Brown emphasized that obstacles like distractions, personality conflicts, and outside scrutiny could undermine the Sixers if they fail to unite. Brown downplayed concerns about hierarchy on the team, stating, "It doesn't have to be anybody's team. It just needs to be based in respect and work."

The 29-year-old expressed his eagerness to learn from LeBron James and his new teammates, praising the veteran's longevity and ability to navigate challenges. Brown also expressed gratitude for his decade with the Boston Celtics, describing it as a "perfect cycle," and said he held no ill will toward his former teammate Jayson Tatum. Brown further revealed his intention to continue his community and philanthropic work in Philadelphia as he settles into his new city.
