Man found dead in waters off Hong Kong’s Stonecutters Island, probe under way

Police have discovered the body of a man in the waters off Stonecutters Island in Hong Kong, where they suspect he drowned while swimming, according to sources. On Thursday morning at 8:24am, authorities received a report that a person was floating in the water around 20 meters from a pier near Stonecutters Island in Tsing Yi. Emergency services recovered the man, but he was declared dead at the scene, with no identification documents found on him.

The victim was estimated to be around 40 years old, standing 1.7 meters tall and weighing approximately 80kg. Law enforcement later recovered his clothing at a pier close to Cheung Fai Road in Tsing Yi. A preliminary investigation indicates the man might have drowned while swimming. Police are currently investigating to confirm his identity, and a postmortem examination will be carried out to determine the exact cause of death.
