Los Alcázares Unveils Mar Menor’s First Dedicated Water Sports Beach

Los Alcázares has become one of Spain’s top water sports destinations by opening the first dedicated beach for water activities in the Mar Menor. The new Playa Náutica de Las Salinas offers a specialized hub for sailing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, wingfoiling, and other sports, catering to beginners as well as professional competitors.

This facility complements the Mar Menor’s calm, shallow waters, favorable climate, and reliable winds that have attracted athletes to the area. The town aims to boost its reputation as a year-round sports tourism destination, reducing its reliance on the traditional summer season. The beach features designated areas for equipment preparation and drying, storage racks for boards and sails, shaded spaces, new street furniture, signage, a weather station, and real-time condition screens.

A highlight is the Nautical Walk of Stars, honoring local athletes such as world sailing champion José Manuel Ruiz Sánchez and national kitesurfing champion Claudia León Martínez. Mayor Mario Pérez Cervera emphasized Los Alcázares’ status as an exceptional location for water sports and its experience in hosting championships. Councillor Jesús Ramón Alcaraz noted that the new facilities will support local athletes and enhance the experience of visitors attending major events.

This development aligns with the town’s strategy to become a premier destination for active tourism, combining dedicated sporting facilities with the Mar Menor’s natural conditions. The opening of Playa Náutica de Las Salinas aims to attract a broader range of competitors and visitors year-round, fostering both sports achievements and sustainable economic growth.
