Jim Carrey Will Star in a Live-Action The Jetsons Movie, Warner Bros. Says

Celebrity actor Jim Carrey has been confirmed to star in a live-action movie adaptation of the classic 1960s Hanna-Barbera cartoon series, The Jetsons. This news was shared by Warner Bros. in a recent letter to shareholders, following earlier unverified reports about the project. Colin Trevorrow was previously rumored to direct the film, but this has not yet been confirmed.

This will be Carrey's first major film role since 2016's Dark Crimes, a decade without a major non-Sonic the Hedgehog project. Carrey is set to reprise his role as Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik in 2027's Sonic the Hedgehog 4. After considering retirement following Sonic 2, Carrey made a return to the spotlight in February for a prestigious award in France, where he delivered an entire speech in French, sparking rumors of an impersonator.

Carrey's motivation for returning to the world of Sonic the Hedgehog was financial, as he explained, "I bought a lot of stuff and I need the money, frankly." The Jetsons, a staple of American television, aired from 1962 to 1966 and 1985 to 1987, featuring the Jetson family in a future where technology like flying cars is commonplace. Despite several attempts to remake the series since the 2000s, an actual live-action film has yet to be realized.

Warner Bros. has long been exploring the potential for a reboot of The Jetsons, with ideas ranging from an animated movie directed by the team behind Sausage Party to a live-action sitcom led by Robert Zemeckis. This latest Carrey-backed project is now the most concrete plan yet. Fans are hopeful that this live-action adaptation will finally bring The Jetsons to life on the big screen.
