HPC to Assess Cargo Growth Options at Buenaventura Terminal

Sociedad Portuaria Regional de Buenaventura S.A. (SPRBUN) has engaged HPC Hamburg Port Consulting (HPC) to optimize its multipurpose port facility in Buenaventura, Colombia. The consultancy will examine terminal optimization, capacity utilization, and phased development strategies for bulk, RoRo, and multipurpose cargo. The study will examine how existing terminal space, infrastructure, and cargo-handling assets can be better utilized and identify growth opportunities in various cargo segments.

While containers remain crucial for the terminal's operations, the project will also focus on the future role of non-containerized cargo and the potential of a diversified cargo portfolio. SPRBUN, situated on Colombia's Pacific coast, plays a strategic role in the country's international trade. The project, led by William Angarita, Director of Planning, Projects, and Innovation at SPRBUN, aims to bolster the terminal's position across various cargo sectors.

HPC will develop short-, medium-, and long-term scenarios, ranging from operational improvements to phased layout and investment options. The consultancy's expertise in terminal planning, market analysis, and financial modelling, coupled with its previous involvement in the terminal's master plan, will aid in creating a feasible development path for the multipurpose port's next phase.
