‘Greatest memorial is not stone or bronze’ – Mahama calls for reforms after helicopter crash

President John Dramani Mahama addressed the National Inter-Faith Memorial Service in Accra on August 6, commemorating the eight Ghanaians who died in a military helicopter crash last year. He stressed the need to acknowledge the sacrifices of public servants and create working conditions that ensure their safety. The President also called for Ghana to transition from mere monuments to a lasting commitment to improved governance and accountability. Recognizing the significance of the inter-faith gathering, Mahama noted the unity of Ghanaians across different faiths, emphasizing shared values of compassion, hope, and solidarity.

He prayed for the departed, the bereaved families, and the wisdom of the nation, urging citizens and public officials to live according to the values of the fallen. Mahama urged Ghanaians to transform grief into purpose by embodying integrity and service, building a Ghana where every citizen feels their contribution matters, and creating a culture of responsible leadership.
