Google Rolls Out August Android 17 Update With Pixel 10 Stability Fixes

Google has initiated the rollout of its August Android 17 update, concentrating on stability and performance enhancements for the Pixel 10 series. This update addresses gaming, GPU, and touchscreen issues while providing the latest security patch. The update is set for devices running Android 17, with a security patch level of 2026-08-05.

It is currently available for Pixel 8 and later models, including the Pixel 8a, Pixel 9 lineup, Pixel 10 series, and Pixel 10a. Users will be notified via a notification when the update becomes available, or it can be manually checked in their device settings. The global build version for this update is CP2A.260805.005, and for Rogers devices in Canada, the build version is CP2A.260805.005.A1.

Unlike many monthly updates that introduce significant changes, this patch prioritizes bug fixes and performance enhancements, especially for newer Pixel 10 devices. One notable security improvement includes patching CVE-2026-0163, a critical elevation-of-privilege vulnerability affecting the Video Processing Unit, thereby minimizing the risk of unauthorized privilege escalation.

However, this update does not extend to older Pixel models like the Pixel 6, 6 Pro, 6a, 7, 7 Pro, and 7a. Google is also testing Android 17 QPR2 Beta 2, which is being rolled out to devices as old as the Pixel 6a. This beta build aims to restore automatic Bluetooth reconnection, fix a Gemini-related crash bug, and address stray notifications.

Despite not including broader Android security fixes beyond the Pixel-specific update, Google encourages users to install the update to receive the latest protections and improvements. Pixel users can manually check for the update by navigating to Settings > System > Software updates > System update. The rollout timeline may vary based on carrier approvals and device models, with users receiving an automated system notification once the OTA installation package is available for their specific build.
