‘God has sustained us with strength and hope’ – Omane Boamah’s family reflects on year of grief

President John Dramani Mahama has honored the late Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, recognizing him not only as a former colleague and minister but also as a steadfast friend, loyal adviser, and younger brother. The tribute took place during a ceremony at the Ministry of Defence, where a cenotaph was unveiled in his memory. Mahama, visibly moved, spoke of the profound personal bond they shared, with Dr Boamah standing by him through the defining moments of his political career.

The President described Omane Boamah as one of the most dependable individuals he had ever worked with, praising his unwavering loyalty, wisdom, and compassion. He noted that the late minister's support was driven by a genuine commitment to shared ideals and national development, rather than personal ambition. Dr Boamah's integrity, professionalism, and kindness were evident in his interactions with colleagues, the security services, and the general public, earning him admiration across political lines.

The President also commended the Ghana Armed Forces for organizing the ceremonial honors, emphasizing that the unveiling of the cenotaph was a fitting tribute to a man who dedicated himself to strengthening Ghana's defense institutions and ensuring national peace and stability. Mahama highlighted that Dr Boamah is the only Defense Minister in Ghana's history to have died while in office, marking a unique and solemn moment in the nation's history.

He stressed the importance of preserving Dr Boamah's legacy to honor his sacrifices and educate future generations about the dedication and service he demonstrated to the nation.
