Five people injured in three-way car accident on Highway 508 in West Bank

A tragic accident on the Mankessim–Accra Highway claimed two lives and left seven others injured early Thursday morning, August 6. The collision occurred at Abor Junction shortly before 2:00 a.m., as reported by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS). The GNFS received an emergency call at 1:44 a.m. to attend to the crash. Firefighters, along with personnel from the National Ambulance Service, arrived at the scene around 2:01 a.m. to initiate rescue efforts.

The vehicle involved in the accident was a Toyota Voxy with registration number AS 8911-25. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered nine individuals inside the car. Alas, two of them— a man and a woman— did not survive the impact. The remaining seven occupants, comprising five men and two women, suffered injuries of varying degrees and were swiftly transported to hospitals for medical attention. Three of the injured were promptly taken to Mercy Women Catholic Hospital in Mankessim for emergency treatment.

The identities of the deceased have not yet been confirmed, and they were temporarily held at the Saltpond Government Hospital mortuary for further procedures. The circumstances leading to the accident are still under investigation. The driver of the Toyota Voxy miraculously escaped unharmed, although the manner of the collision remains uncertain.

After the rescue operations, firefighters cleared the wreckage from the highway to ensure the safe re-establishment of traffic flow and prevent any additional accidents on this crucial stretch of road.
