Ex-PM Ismail Sabri to face graft charges tomorrow

The former prime minister of Malaysia, Ismail Sabri Yaakob, is set to face graft charges in a Kuala Lumpur court tomorrow, according to reports from Bernama. The case allegedly centers around his declaration of assets, as stated in the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act.

Checks on the court's e-filing system confirmed that Ismail Sabri will appear before judge Suzana Hussin at 9am the following day. This legal action follows his previous involvement in corruption and money laundering allegations, for which he was questioned by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) multiple times last year.

The MACC concluded its investigation into Ismail Sabri's case in June 2025. During the course of the probe, officials discovered approximately RM170 million in cash and 16kg of gold bars, believed to be hidden in the residences of four men and three other premises. These items were seized in operations targeting what were described as "safe houses."

The investigation was reportedly connected to the expenditure and procurement of funds for promotional and publicity activities under the Keluarga Malaysia initiative during Ismail Sabri's tenure as prime minister, which lasted from August 2021 to November 2022.
