London has officially submitted its bid to host the 2029 World Athletics Championships. The initiative, spearheaded by Athletic Ventures - a consortium comprising UK Athletics, London Marathon Events, and the Great Run Company - aims to bring the biennial event to the English capital. The final bid documents were submitted to World Athletics, indicating a strong commitment to the opportunity.

The proposed host venue for the championships is London Stadium, a structure originally constructed for the 2012 Olympic Games and utilized for the London Diamond League meetings for the past four years. The city's bid submission follows a feasibility study conducted before April 2025, which suggested the event could inject £400 million into the UK economy. Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy emphasized the government's pride in backing the bid, noting that major sporting events foster national unity and can unlock substantial social and economic benefits.
