Dockers not treating trip to MCG any differently as AFL finals loom

Since taking over as coach of the Fremantle Dockers at the start of the 2020 AFL season, Justin Longmuir has only had the opportunity to play at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) 12 times. Their upcoming match against Melbourne on Saturday afternoon is viewed as ideal preparation for the grand final later in September. Longmuir isn't overly concerned about the dress rehearsal, stating that the team has played the MCG enough times to not feel it's a burden.

They play against the Melbourne team nearly every second week, so they're accustomed to the experience.

Longmuir emphasizes they will give their best effort and play to improve their footy against the Melbourne team, who have proven to be strong competitors in recent years. He stresses it would be disrespectful to the game to get ahead of themselves, as a win or loss in this match won't be the end-all or be-all. The team has had many experiences at the MCG, and it shouldn't instill any fear in them.

Longmuir is confident that assistant coach Jaymie Graham won't be distracted by his potential head coaching interviews with other AFL sides. Jrime Graham has reportedly advanced to the final round of interviews for both the Essendon and Carlton jobs. Longmuir believes Graham has managed his dual responsibilities well and is professional in his approach.

Should Graham receive an offer from the Blues or Bombers, a decision on his future with Fremantle will be made in due course. Longmuir expresses faith in Graham's ability to handle both roles and understands his desire to see the current season through. He also confirms there are no plans to rest large numbers of players in the lead-up to the finals, despite a warning from the AFL about maintaining game integrity.
