‘Democracy Under Attack’ demonstration was peaceful – NPP

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has hailed its "Democracy Under Attack" demonstration as one of the most peaceful political protests in Ghana's history. In an interview on JoyNews’ The Pulse, the party’s Deputy General Secretary, Haruna Mohammed, praised the demonstrators for their discipline and commended the security services and media for their support.

Mr. Mohammed emphasized that the NPP had consistently encouraged supporters to maintain order throughout the march, as their primary objective was to safeguard democracy without compromising public stability. He expressed gratitude to the party members, civil society organizations, and the NPP leadership for organizing a well-ordered protest.

Mr. Mohammed clarified that the NPP had previously cautioned participants to remain civil, as they aimed to defend democracy while ensuring a stable and orderly atmosphere. He credited the demonstrators for following the party’s guidelines, which significantly contributed to the peaceful nature of the event. Additionally, Mr. Mohammed acknowledged the media for allowing journalists to report the demonstration without interference.

The demonstration involved marching to the Supreme Court and Jubilee House, where the NPP submitted petitions concerning alleged arbitrary arrests, selective justice, and threats to Ghana’s democratic institutions.
