Charlton family face €233k tax for Jack's World Cup medal

The family of late Republic of Ireland manager Jack Charlton is refusing to sell his World Cup-winning medal, despite potentially facing a significant tax bill. Charlton, who passed away six years ago at the age of 85, was a key player on England's 1966 World Cup-winning team. The medal currently belongs to his widow, Pat. John Charlton, their son, revealed that during the process of settling his father's affairs, tax authorities estimated the cost of retaining the medal at around £200,000.

This would either necessitate payment from the estate or John himself. The family intends to keep the medal within their lineage and are unwilling to part with it, even if it meant accepting a substantial financial burden. John emphasized, "I have no intention of selling the medal." The family, including his former club Leeds United, have no plans to sell the medal.
