Centre keen on investing to develop tea, textile sector in Bengal: CM Suvendu Adhikari

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari expressed the central government's keenness to invest in the development of West Bengal's tea and textile industries. During his visit to Delhi on July 4, Adhikari discussed the state's financial condition with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who showed significant interest in the two sectors.

The two-day Kolkata Couture Expo, inaugurated by Adhikari, is projected to generate business worth around ₹1,000 crore. The two main sectors of focus are the tea sector and the textile industry. Adhikari emphasized the need to support tea garden workers, as at least 25 tea gardens are currently closed. He also highlighted the high quality of products from several weaver families in Purbasthali and Shantipur, urging investment in these sectors.

Sitharaman is expected to visit the state in the last week of August. Adhikari urged the textile business industry to invest in Bengal and assured the state government's full support. He encouraged the industry to make use of the "Amrit Kaal" (a period of great opportunity) by sending proposals for the development of the textile sector. Adhikari also called for strengthened law and order in the state, promising to make necessary changes to existing laws if required.
