CAF Champions League: Medeama to face 5-time winners T.P Mazembe in preliminary round

The Ghana Premier League champions Medeama S.C. have been allocated to face Congolese football powerhouse Tout Puissant Mazembe in the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League. Medeama, based in Tarkwa, will host the first leg at the TnA Stadium during the weekend of September 4-6, 2026. Following the match, Medeama will make the trip to the Democratic Republic of Congo for the return fixture the subsequent weekend.

In their previous encounter, Mazembe emerged victorious with a 3-1 scoreline on June 19, 2016, during a CAF Confederation Cup group stage match in Lubumbashi. Subsequently, Medeama secured a 3-2 win at Accra Sports Stadium a month later. If they secure a qualification, Medeama will encounter either Tunisian side Club Africain or Mali's Djoliba AC in the second preliminary round.

Currently, Medeama S.C. are in Ivory Coast for their pre-season campaign, where they defeated Yamoussokro F.C. 2-1 in their inaugural pre-season friendly on Wednesday. On the other hand, the FA Cup winners Nations F.C. have been paired with Mali's F.C. Diarra in the CAF Confederations Cup. The first leg of their clash will take place in Mali, with Nations F.C. hosting Diarra on the weekend of September 4-6, 2026.

Nations F.C. will then return to Ghana for the second leg between September 11 and 13, 2026. If they advance, Nations FC will face the victor of the tie between Niger's AS Zam and Togo's ASKO de Kara in the second preliminary round.
