Observational data published in Gastroenterology supported the use of liver stiffness measurements as a prognostic tool for primary sclerosing cholangitis, predicting transplant-free survival and the likelihood of needing a transplant or dying.

A retrospective study in the American Journal of Gastroenterology analyzed Jehovah's Witness patients who refused blood transfusions during gastrointestinal bleeds. The study found that these patients had comparable 30-day mortality rates to matched controls, but they experienced more intermediate levels of care for closer monitoring due to their religious beliefs.
