WhatsApp channel admins will soon get the ability to flag AI-generated media

As the EU's transparency requirements for AI-generated content become effective, WhatsApp is developing a feature for channel admins to flag specific types of AI-generated media. The feature, spotted in WhatsApp's latest Android beta, will enable admins to label AI-generated content once it is shared. To do this, admins can tap and hold the message, then select "Add AI content label" from the context menu.

This action will add a visible label to the message, informing followers that the media was generated using artificial intelligence. Once added, users may not be able to remove the label. Not all AI-generated content will require labeling, as the feature is intended for images, videos, or other media created or edited using AI tools. It is uncertain whether this option will be released globally or only where required by law.
