Vollering win sets up three-way Tour de France Femmes fight

Demi Vollering secured her maiden victory in the 2026 Tour de France Femmes, prompting Marlen Reusser to drop to second place. Reusser now leads Vollering by 12 seconds in the overall standings. Stage six proved to be a 153.4-kilometer hilly route from Montbrison to Tournon-sur-Rhône. Vollering triumphed in a sprint finish against her primary competitors, while Reusser claimed second position.

Poland's Katarzyna Niewiadoma-Phinney (Canyon-SRAM) appeared to gain ground with 300 meters left, but Vollering closed the gap and crossed the finish line first. Vollering expressed her confidence in her ability to challenge Reusser, stating that she knew Niewiadoma-Phinney would attempt to lead early, so she allowed her to do so in hopes of making her work harder.

Vollering gave it her all during the final sprint, requiring every meter of effort. The grueling 140-kilometer ride from Mâcon to Belleville-en-Beaujolais, featuring eight categorized climbs, resulted in the anticipated shifts in the general classification. However, Reusser retained her lead, now separated from Vollering by 12 seconds.

Poland's Katarzyna Niewiadoma-Phinney moved up to third place, one minute and seventeen seconds behind the leader. Last year's winner, Pauline Ferrand-Prévot, struggled on the final climbs and currently trails Reusser by five minutes. Mountains classification leader Puck Pieterse earned maximum points on the first six climbs, but the group was caught by the yellow-jersey squad after the second-to-last climb.

Niewiadoma-Phinney and Vollering have consistently finished on the final podium since the race's inception in 2022, ensuring they are well-positioned to secure another podium finish. With four stages remaining, Reusser maintains her slender lead, knowing that a fierce battle awaits as Vollering and Niewiadoma-Phinney continue their pursuit.
