Vietnam welcomes 13.9 million international visitors in first seven months of 2026

In the first seven months of 2026, Vietnam welcomed an estimated 13.9 million international visitors, marking a 13.8% increase compared to the same period in the previous year, according to official data released by the country's General Statistics Office on August 3rd. July saw 1.67 million foreign arrivals, a slight 0.7% decrease from June but a 6.6% rise from July 2025, as reported by Sài Gòn Giải Phóng.

The January–July figure totaled 13.9 million international arrivals, indicating a steady recovery of Vietnam's tourism sector despite it being traditionally the low season. Europe led among major source markets with a remarkable 53.4% surge year-on-year, resulting in over 2.35 million visitors. Oceania's visitor numbers grew by 22.5% to 437,900, while those from the Americas increased by 18.9% to 796,800.

Asia continued to be Vietnam's primary source region, accounting for 10.3 million visitors, a 6.8% increase from the previous year. The Vietnam National Authority of Tourism expressed particular enthusiasm about these results, as the global tourism industry continues to grapple with economic and geopolitical uncertainties. They credited the sustained growth to more lenient visa policies, an expanded international flight network, intensified tourism promotion efforts, and ongoing enhancements in tourism products and services.

China remained Vietnam's largest inbound tourism market during the period, contributing 3.1 million visitors, or 22.2% of the total international arrivals. South Korea held the second position with 2.4 million visitors, maintaining its status as one of Vietnam's most crucial tourism markets. In comparison, Thailand's Ministry of Tourism and Sports reported 18.5 million international visitors between January and August, generating 896.2 billion baht in tourism revenue, although arrivals declined by 3.19% from the same period last year.
