Tommy Robinson defends Muslim student subject to social media hate campaign

Off Anti-Islam activist Tommy Robinson, real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, has defended and apologized to Muslim Oxford University student Aisha Khan-Aziz, who faced a wave of abuse on social media after remarks at an Oxford Union debate were taken out of context. The debate, held on June 17, revolved around the motion "This House believes the West is right to be suspicious of Islam".

Robinson, who was on the proposition team that lost the debate, faced criticism for a clip showing Khan-Aziz introduce him with a light-hearted comment about rioting against him and not being protected by a Muslim president. The controversy escalated as Khan-Aziz received numerous abusive messages on X, with prominent figures like Kevin Sorbo, John Cleese, Ben Shapiro, Laurence Fox, Steven Barrett, Peter Savodnik, and Rod Dreher weighing in.

Robinson initially shared some of the abusive posts but later clarified that Khan-Aziz's comments were taken out of context. He expressed remorse for allowing the misrepresentation to gain momentum and apologized to Khan-Aziz for contributing to the misunderstanding.
