Sindh restores five-day working week for schools, colleges

The Sindh provincial government has reverted to a five-day working week for schools and colleges, following its initial decision to extend the academic week to six days. The alteration was made public on Wednesday, when the Sindh School Education and Literacy Department released the alteration. The notification stated that every public and private educational institution under the School Education & Literacy Department's jurisdiction shall operate a five-day week, from Monday to Friday, effective immediately.

The working hours for single-shift and double-shift schools would be outlined separately. Similarly, the Sindh College Education Department also issued a similar directive, stating that all affiliated public and private institutions would adhere to a five-day week from Monday to Friday, with immediate effect.

Earlier in the week, both departments had announced a six-day working week, spanning from Monday to Saturday, for all public and private educational institutions under their control. This decision came after the Sindh government, on March 31, declared Saturday and Sunday to be non-school days as part of austerity measures and fuel conservation efforts in response to the economic ramifications of the US-Israeli conflict with Iran.
